Just next door to Leipzig’s main railway station, a 4-star mid-range hotel with 200 bedrooms is being built alongside a 2-star budget hotel with 300 bedrooms and a parking garage. Construction follows a single-phase design competition. The large structure is integrated with its urban setting, fanning out onto Hauptstrasse and offering passers-by a view of dramatic, changing angles. The important design criteria cover economic aspects as well as the design guidelines. Involving all specialist planning departments at an early stage was key to achieving third place in the competition. The floor plan was designed in parallel with a detailed building services concept, allowing building services areas and shafts to be optimised. In addition, the use of prefabrication in the design, which includes prefabricated baths and a prefabricated concrete façade, allows both planning and construction processes to be speeded up considerably.
