A challenging planning task: revitalisation and change of use at the former machine factory in Anger-Crottendorf in Leipzig. The vast factory buildings will be transformed into 95 exclusive loft apartments. An existing development plan shows a number of construction plots on the site; five new structures are to be built on these plots. In total, 514 new residential units will transform the derelict site into a vibrant neighbourhood. The project is unusual due to the need to integrate a disused railway line into the urban development scheme – the line will be used for local recreation and improve the quality of the location and connecting highly diverse neighbourhoods. The facades for the new buildings are made of prefabricated concrete elements, creating a visual connection to the existing industrial architecture.
